Onions are made up of many layers. To get to the core, you have to go through all the layers. Each layer has to be broken in order to move to the next, and so on, until you reach the heart of the onion.
Carla mentioned to me that I'm like an onion. I have many layers and it's hard to peel them away. That made me think how we humans are made of many layers. Some people are more apt to let others peel the layers very easily, and some have tough skin that you can't even get to the layers.
Different friends in our lives can penetrate to different layers. Many might see one layer, where only a minute amount, if any, get to the core.

And just like onions the tendency to make you cry is always there too.
And just like onions people often leave a bad taste in the mouth or rancid breath.
